Food Fight
This game drove me crazy for a long time. It was among my
favorite arcade games, but for some reason I could not get it to work on
MAME. I tried and tried and it just laughed at me. Then for no reason,
it worked. So I am back in video game nirvana as the last big game I
wanted works. So I had to do a review of it.
Food Fight is a simple game in concept. You move
around and throw food at some angry chefs. The goal is to get to the
other side of screen and eat the ice cream cone before it melts. That
is about it. But in the journey across the screen, you have a seriously
fun video game. First off, how can you not like the idea of throwing
food at someone? From pies and bananas to peas and watermelon, you have
a variety of items to throw at the chefs. But they can also throw the
food back at you. So you better not stay still or you will get covered
with food as once you get hit, all the food flies at you and covers
you. It is a pretty funny little animation.

There are two different types of food. There
is the limited food where there is only a handful and then it runs out.
These include tomatoes, pies, peas and bananas. Then there is the
watermelon which never runs out. You can sit there and throw it all day
long. That is if it wasn't for the melting ice cream cone. You better
not take too much time or you will lose a life.
One of the neatest little features about the
game is the replay feature. Usually around levels 5 to 7, if you have a
good race across the screen with alot of thrown food, you will get a
replay of the level. It is not guaranteed to happen as you have to
actually last on the screen and make it worthwhile. I had played a game
where I got to level 15 without a single replay and then I had games
where I had two instant replays. They are quite comical as you see
things sped up a bit with some humorous music in the background. It is
one of my favorite parts of the game.

There is one part of the game that I do not
like. It is trivial but it is still annoying. That is when you go to
put in your name for a high score. You have your guy in the middle of
the screen throwing pies at the letters. Move it to the letter and hit
the button to get the letter. The problem is that it is not too
accurate and with a time limit you sometimes end up with a name you do
not want. While it is cute in design, it is a pain to spell your name.
While the game can get a bit repetitive as you
are doing the same thing level after level, I find it a game that I keep
playing. It is always fun to throw food, especially when you do not
have to clean it up. And the challenge to get a higher score never gets
old.
This is just a review of the arcade machine. If you are looking for the
actual arcade machine, you may want to check out ebay. Click below to
