During the 1980's to early 1990's, Alan Moore reigned supreme as one
of the best writers in comic history (I will still argue with anyone that the
1980's was the best era for comic stories). The Killing Joke was his
Batman story and what a story it was. Anyone who ever read it will never
forget it, especially the joke at the end.
